Learning Partners

Berkana works through web of relationships with many partners. We know that we are not alone in this work. We don’t have to do it all. We don’t have to grow and become more complex and get lost in our own institutional ego. Like everyone else, we just have to do our part. We rely on a web of partner relationships as we engage in our work in the world.

Our primary learning partners are those individuals involved in the networks that make up our Learning Centers in the Berkana Exchange. However, our learning partners are not limited to those communities. We also have developed strong and generative relationships with other partners all over the world. Five key partners are:

Art of Hosting

One of the most important acts in these times is to find the courage to be in the conversations that truly matter. We find our individual selves and our common purpose when we learn how to speak and listen to each other with respect, truth and compassion. Our colleagues from The Art of Hosting connect hosts of conversations that matter all around the world and invite those hosts together for 3-4 day events where they deepen their skills at using a number of processes – circle, world café, open space, dialogue and others – to create spaces which host the conversations needed in the world right now.

PeerSpirit

PeerSpirit is an educational company with transformational dreams and global outreach – they work with a cadre of teaching companions whose wide range of expertise allows them to respond to many opportunities. The name, PeerSpirit, comes from the group process methodology that informs all of their work: PeerSpirit Circle Process. When leadership rotates, responsibility is shared, and ultimate reliance is based on the group's highest intention, a peer spirit is in action. PeerSpirit believes that the equality of contribution releases a synergistic energy that gelps us toward best outcomes.

PeerSpirit co-founders, Christina Baldwin and Ann Linnea, are masters at facilitating significant conversations among people in businesses, educations, non-profit organizations, and personal groups. The partners bring decades of experience in group facilitation, teaching, speaking, writing and leadership skills to their work.

Pegasus Communications

In an increasingly complex world, innovators working to spark positive change within their own organizations and systems have continued to look for resources and tools for that change. Pegasus Communications has provided a forum for that change, helping individuals, teams, and organizations thrive in an increasingly complex world since 1989. Through a grounding in the rigorous principles and tools of systems thinking and related disciplines, practitioners from business, education, government, and the nonprofit world find the freedom to connect with others in new ways and design sustainable solutions to their most persistent challenges. From tentative first steps to great leaps of faith, Pegasus provides tools and ideas for changing the world one system at a time.

Pioneers of Change

People all around the world are connected in the networks of Pioneers of Change. Founded in the late 90s by people in their twenties and thirties who wanted to be fully awake in their lives, Pioneers is a global network which uses the internet to support global connection and local centers of activity in many cities around the world. Learning Journeys and annual Summer Schools are part of the way pioneers stay connected with each other.

ALIA, Authentic Leadership in Action Institute

ALIA is the home of the Shambala Summer Institute and a growing network of regionally based, globally connected leadership programs and learning communities. ALIA is a resource for those who recognize that neither the experiences of the past nor wishful thinking about the future are enough to lead organizations and communities through the complex challenges of today. The Institute's programs help leaders integrate the best of who they are, how they think, and how they respond moment-to-moment with the strategies, tools, and practices of 21st century leadership.

World Café

Another key global network that supports change agents is the World Café. Located all around the world, World Café hosts are people who know that the knowledge we need is often already in the room and that what’s required is bringing that knowledge to the surface and connecting it. World Café is a key way to make a system of knowledge visible so it can guide our actions.

When we undertake different efforts at Berkana, we frequently turn to people we have met though and in these four circles. We share values, principles and beliefs. We share common questions about what else might be possible.
