In February 2006 a group of ten people spent almost two weeks learning together in India on a Berkana hosted Learning Journey. Swaraj was the "red thread" of inquiry during the journey.
Swaraj, or rule over oneself, is inspired by Gandhi's call for people to lead and create their own models of development that are holistic, sustainable, collaborative and socially just. In the Berkana Exchange's first Learning Journey to India, we explored how pioneering leaders are creating new ways for communities to care for themselves. Our hosts were the founders of Abhivyakti and Shikshantar, two learning centers that are part of the Berkana Exchange network. |
