In November 2004 and 2006, The Berkana Institute hosted a group of people on a two-week Learning Journey to Southern Africa, where the participants met and learned from pioneering leaders who are creating extraordinary change in their communities. On this journey, they traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa, and to Zimbabwe's Kufunda Learning Village, a learning center and model village that helps communities develop the skills of self-reliance. With guidance from Kufunda founder Marianne Knuth and Berkana Institute Co-President Bob Stilger, they explored innovative approaches to leadership that are working well, and that offer us new possibilities for making a difference in our lives.
