Parent/Child Learning Journey

On August 2, 2008, The Berkana Institute led a group of parents and their teen/young adult children on a two week-long Learning Journey to Southern Africa that opened eyes, minds, hearts and hands to the work of pioneering leaders.

This intergenerational learning journey was the first of its kind for Berkana. Another way in which this journey was the first of its kind for us is that we had to make changes to our initial plans, adjusting the intinerary of the trip because of the current political situation in Zimbabwe. We took a long train ride from Johannesburg to the Cape through the Karoo Desert, spent a little more time in Cape Town, traveled to Durban and finished off in a game reserve in the Natal region.

Read a reflection, "Unpacking a Learning Journey," by participant and Berkana board member Cyndie Wiggins, on her experience in 2008 here
