Act locally. Connect regionally. Learn trans-locally. Since the 2004 launch of the Berkana Exchange, our community has been engaged in local work and trans-local learning. Each participant contributes to creating greater resilience in his or her own community through local action—from growing food to engaging youth to creating useful things out of waste. These pioneers are constantly experimenting with new approaches, ideas and technologies. When they connect regionally with others who share their culture and context, the capacity for learning and innovation accelerates.
The regional learning communities of the Berkana Exchange support and nurture pre-existing networks of relationship, invite in new individuals and organizations, and deepen the level of connection and cooperation within the region. Participants can gather together more frequently, share their learning, extend their reach, practice new skills and continue to work together to create healthy and resilient communities.
Regional activities include:
• Sustaining and nourishing current relationships • Identifying new participants to invite into the community • Organizing and hosting learning exchanges and caravans • Convening gatherings around issues of shared concern • Identifying opportunities for collective action • Supporting and coordinating regional projects • Sharing learning through booklets, films, multimedia productions and more |
